The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML chapter has promised to address Saturday's operations at the Mile 2 off-dock facility owned by the Ports and Terminal Services Multiservices Limited (PTML)
Investigations by Auto Port Weekly revealed that while the terminal operator carry out their operations at the terminal located at Tin Can Island Port on Saturdays, the off-dock facility located at Mile 2 , always shut down operations during weekends, a situation that calls for immediate action on the part of the operations.
But, speaking shortly after a meeting with the officials of Grimaldi Shipping Line and clearing agents last week,C hairman of the chapter , Mr Oluwole Obey said that there is need for agents to express their views to the shipping line agency and the need to put in place measures to avoid demurrage on vehicles transferred to the Mile 2 off- dock terminal.
"Since the terminal operator is working on Saturday at the port, I think there is also the need for them to work at the off dock terminal at Mile2"
"I will make sure that I meet with them in that regards to ensure that anything that will lead to demurrage on the part of the shipping company over transfer of vehicles to Mile 2 terminal must be avoided ", he said.
He also noted that representatives of each of the freight forwarding associations operating at PTML will continue to meet with the shipping line on how to ameliorate clearing of vehicles and containers out of its facility.
The ANLCA chapter chairman further added that meeting with the concessionaire will be held on a monthly basis, in order to address clearing of vehicles and other consignment from the ports.
Meanwhile document sighted by Auto Port Weekly further stated that the shipping company is working to further extend the three days demurrage to enable the operators clear the vehicles within that period without attracting extra charges.
