A trucker and the Lagos State Vice-Chairman, Dry Cargo of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO); Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa, has said that Tincan Island Container Terminal (TICT) APM Terminal (APMT), Folawiyo and other private depots should be held responsible for the traffic gridlock on the Lagos port access roads.
Alhaji Abdullahi said this recently in Lagos even as he advised the federal government through the ministry of works and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to put more effort on the on-going palliative works on Creek road, Tincan 1st and 2nd gate down to Coconut and to ensure that much attention is given to the clearing of drainages along the road for water to flow very well.
He also called for collaboration between APMT and Lillypond terminals to drop their empty containers and export containers and make use of the railway system to move them to the ports for shipment rather than going directly to the ports.
He also said that holding bays should be equipped with sound handling equipment and good road network.
“You cannot mention Apapa gridlock without talking of TICT, APMT Folawiyo and other private depots in Coconut area of Apapa. TICT is a terminal that is currently having about 17 shipping companies operating in it with a very limited and insufficient cargo handling equipment. There is only one entrance which serves as both entrance and exit into the terminal.
