The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, said it impounded 24 vehicles from smugglers at the Idiroko border area within two weeks.
The outgone Controller of the Area Command, Sani Madugu, spoke at the Idiroko border office of the command while handing over to the new acting Controller, Michael Agbara.
He said 12 of the vehicles were smuggled into the country through the Idiroko border, while the remaining 12 were used as means of conveyance for smuggled goods.
Also, within the same period, he said 252 bags of smuggled foreign rice, 110 jerrycans of vegetable oil and 30 cartons of frozen poultry products were seized.
He said, “Within the last two weeks, the command seized 12 smuggled tokunbo vehicles, while 12 other vehicles, used as means of conveyance for smuggled goods, were also intercepted.”
Madugu, who reported at the command on April 25, 2017, said he had been transferred to the NCS headquarters, Abuja, as the controller in charge of enforcement.
He noted that the command succeeded in its anti-smuggling war due to the commitment of operatives of the command.
