The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has charged the National Assembly to purchase made-in-Nigeria vehicles for its members.
The President of MAN, Engineer Mansur Ahmed who said this in chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, also maintained that if local vehicles assemblers in the country are patronized, it will have a tremendous impact on the automotive sector.
He also added that the move will also help to promote local vehicle spare parts manufacturers.
“For instance, we heard that the National Assembly is going to buy vehicles for all the new members both in the House and in the Senate”
“And we believe that if all those can be vehicles assembled in Nigeria, that would have a tremendous impact on the automotive sector in the country because it would boost their demand and bring them up to create market for those that can produce inputs like some of the parts of the vehicles”
Mansur reiterated the commitment of the association to ensure that policies that are aimed at promoting made in Nigeria goods, especially vehicles are given the adequate attention.
“So it is an ongoing effort and we will continue to work in this regards, we will continue to push as far as we are concerned, he assured.
He charged all Nigerians to put efforts together to ensure that the nation consumes what it produces, adding that there is a serious campaign in that regards.
“I think at this stage, I want to call on all Nigerians, we really have an obligation to utilize made in Nigeria goods and vehicles in particular”
The MAN boss added that the association is going to engage all government agencies to ensure that this is achieved.
“We must consume what we produce and we must continue to produce what we consume. Indeed, there are made in Nigeria campaign and that is one of the major campaigns of the association and over the next year we are going to do a lot more on that regard”
“We are going to engage all the government agencies that are involved. For instance, the public procurement commission and to ensure that the executive order 003 is being implemented” he concluded.
