Acting President of the, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarder (NAGAFF), Mr. Uche Increase, has said that car smugglers might go back to their illegitimate business if the Federal Government does not tackle vehicle importation challenges, like high freight rate, extortion, amongst others, that have been discouraging people from using the seaport.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, Mr. Uche, who applauded the move by the government to restrict importation of vehicles through land borders, said that the policy has helped shipping companies and terminal operators as the smugglers have started patronising seaports.
He therefore urged the federal government to ensure that these challenges are dealt with as soon as possible.
“The restriction of vehicles through land borders is helping the shipping companies and terminal operators at least; we can see more inflow of vehicles now. But as the inflow is increasing the authorities should look at the challenges that have been discouraging people from patronising seaports and address those challenges, like high freight rate which they attribute to piracy, human barrier inside the ports, and extortion amongst other.
