Determined to ensure that no government revenue is lost through vehicles importation and to reduce infractions, the Ports & Terminal Multipurpose Limited (PTML) command of the Nigeria Customs Service, has said that the command will major on thorough examination to ensure the value of imported vehicles into the command.
The Customs Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Yakubu Muhammed, who said this in a chat with Shipping Position Daily at PTML last week, also said that before a vehicle can be examined this year, it has to be registered, christened and valued.
He also said that the Customs Area Controller in charge of the Command, Controller Dixon Florence, has encouraged all officers of the command to ensure that all hands are on deck to ensure that proper duties are paid on any vehicle that comes into the country.
The PRO however said that with the introduction of the Nigerian Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS 2) it will be difficult for vehicles to pass the command without paying the accurate duty.
“I doubt if something like that happens here at PTML because we are on to NICIS 2, all hands are on deck to ensure that there is no infraction at the command. With the platform smuggling can’t take place thorough examination is taking place here and as we all know, the port is a RORO port so you must see the car before you go for examination. The CAC is putting some certain strategies like thorough examination, cross checking in the system before examination to ensure compliance” he concluded.
