The Ports and Terminal Multipurpose Limited (PTML) has denied allegations of vandalisation of vehicles that came into the country through the terminal, challenging anybody to come out with evidence to prove the allegation.
The company said this last week in a chat with Shipping Position Daily at its office at Tin Can port in Apapa.
Speaking during the chat, the General Manager of Grimaldi Shipping Lines, Mr Babatunde Keshinro, said that as professionals in the shipping industry who value customers satisfaction, the company takes note of the condition of the vehicle as at the time it was purchased, when it was loaded in the containers, when it was handed over to the shipping lines, until it gets to the customers.
Mr Keshinro also blamed the high importation of damaged cars to the high rate of exchange rate, saying that importers have discovered that most Nigerians do not have sufficient money to buy a fairly new car, so what they do now is to import damaged cars, repair and sell to them at a bit cheaper price.
“Each time people say that there are stories of car vandalization in PTML, I always ask them to give me the evidence. When you run this type of operation and I say it with every sense of modesty that within the last few days, we have discharge well over 7,000 units of vehicles and these are complex. The most important thing the terminal as a service provider has done is to acquire the necessary equipment to run the company, not just personnel, but by CCTV, among others and also to offer the necessary training and equipment to handle these units”, he explained.
According to him, “for a terminal operator who is claiming to be the dominant terminal in Nigeria what do you have to sell, if the goods are coming in and they are damaged, does that tell well about the company? I can say this with every sense of responsibility, I am very proud with what PTML has done in this country”, he concluded.
