Truck owners have commended the newly-appointed General Manager, Western Zone, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA);Mr R.A. Gadamosi, saying that the haulage groups will work with him in ensuring that the roads linking the two ports are repaired which in turn will solve some of the problems militating against free flowing traffic along the port arteries.
Speaking in separate interviews with Auto Port Weekly in Lagos, the truckers admitted that the new NPA boss has leadership and team spirit when compared to his predecessor in the western zone.
According to them, with Mr Gbadamosi (an Architect) in place as the general manager, issues surround truck owners and management will be addressed amicably.
Patron, Joint Council and Seaports Truckers (JCOST); Comrade, Sylvester Keshinro told Auto Port Weekly that with the couple of meetings already held with the new GM, Western Zone, it is evident that issues associated with truckers will be resolved.
According to him, the GM is a listening person that understands the issues at stake, adding that there are indications that the face-off between truck owners and NPA management will soon be resolved.
The JCOST chieftain however advised that the truckers will love the NPA Western zone to look into the deplorable state of the road and also pay more attention to the traffic situation within the port access routes.
Keshinro lamented that truck owners are at the losing end, because of the poor state of roads leading to the ports, pointing out that the average life span of a truck that plies the route is two years.
Meanwhile, Secretary General, JCOST; Mr. Godwin Ikeji expressed delight over the manner in which the new General Manager perceive issues when dealing with the operators.
Ikeji advised the GM to ensure that his decisions are not manipulated whenever issues might arise among both parties.
He urged the GM to revisit the issue of truck standardisation before the end of 2016, adding that it was quite unfortunate that some trucks are not upping standards yet they have access into the ports to transact business.
