Amalgamation of Trucking Association (ATA), an umbrella body of all trucking associations in the country has accused the federal government of abandoning the ports link roads barely two weeks after it promised to repair the roads.
The association said this recently in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily.
Speaking during the chat, the Chairman of the association; Mr. Victor Nnorom said that despite all the promises the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala, made about two weeks ago when they recently withdrew their services at the ports, the NPA is yet to do something tangible on the roads.
He also said that though the 21 days ultimatum they gave the government will soon be up by next week, they are planning to meet again with all truckers, freight forwarders and the stakeholders before they will meet any arm of the government.
Mr. Nnorom maintained that no reasonable work is going on in the roads except the filling of some spots with sand.
“We are planning for a meeting; we gave them 21 days which will expire next week Wednesday. We will first be meeting with truckers and all the stakeholders before we will meet any arm of the government. Let us see if those link roads have been completely abandoned despite all the promises made by the MD of NPA. Because as it stands now, no reasonable job has been done on that road, there is no serious thing going on there except that they started filling that place when we withdrew our services some weeks ago”, he concluded.
