The composite index decreased 4.3% this week but 11.9% up as compared with same period of 2018.
The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1551/40ft container, which is $69 higher than the five-year average of $ 1482/40ft container.
Drewry’s composite World Container Index (WCI) decreased 5.4% or $60.30 to reach $1,334.23 per 40ft container. Freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles plummeted $222 and stood at $1,504 per feu. Rates on Shanghai-New York dwindled $120 to $2,672 for a 40ft box. Similarly, rates on Los Angeles-Shanghai dropped $17 to $502 per feu. Drewry expects that the carriers will struggle to recover rates next week.
