Dealers along the popular Sunrise bus stop axis on the ever-busy Apapa Oshodi Expressway in Lagos have lamented the poor state of the road in that axis, saying that it is causing low turn out of buyers of fairly- used vehicles.
The road which is supposed to be rehabilitated by Julius Berger Nigerian Limited is now a large pool of water as the whole length of the service lane that leads to the auto park is riddled with enormous potholes and craters, and causing hindrance to prospective customers who want to gain entrance into the park.
One of the dealers at the park said that as the rainy season is fast approaching, business activities in the park is invariably slowed down as customers and buyers can not gain entrance into the park as the service lane is completely flooded with water.
According to Mr. Cyril Nsonwu, who told Auto Port Weekly that ‘’for the past six years, the road has been terrible with series of promises from Julius Berger that they will come and repair the road for us and early this year ,the construction company said they will repair the road but right now we are in the month of March and nothing has been done to that effect.’’
He added that “very soon the rain will start and most of the dealers in the park have to look for alternative measure to sell their vehicles as the park will be a no- go area’’.
It was confirmed that the park has been in existence before the popular Berger Park.
According to Mr. Andrew Uzo who said Sunrise Park gave birth to Berger Park as a result of high concentration of vehicles in the early 1990’s, “this Park has been in existence for long, it gave birth to Berger park as a result of congestion by the vehicles and some of us decided that we should spread to other areas close by”. He added that as a result of the bad road in the Park, business activities are not flowing the way it should be as the ditches and pot holes do not allow people to gain access into the park again.
