There is so much work to do, so the earlier NISA and her members, from the executives to the general membership get settled and face the job at hand, the better for everybody, individually and as a group. There are no issues that cannot be resolved, countries have gone to war and have come back again, associations have had problems and they have come back again. As human beings we must have problems, even in the garden of Eden there was a problem, but we are generations beyond that now, so problems can always be resolved, there is no problems without a solution.
Olaosebikan Ojo (NISA member)
If an association has issues that are not organizational issues, then it should be taken out of the association, the NISA president have not been convicted of any crime, he has been working hard to make the association better, NISA now has a National Secretariat, it has never gotten one since it was founded in 2003. The purpose of the association is to look at the welfare of ship owners, in doing this, distractions will come, but it is the duty of the association to ward them off and remain focused. Association is by freewill, so you cannot force anybody to be a member of the association, the association is about 160 members with the least investment of N150million, now if there are people that are not members of the association, they can only be reached out to, it is not by force.
Otunba Shola Olatunji (NISA member)
I am not aware of any crisis in NISA, but I am aware of sensational and non-existing crisis that people are trying to input into the association which at best can be described as a private affair, as a member of NISA I can have business conflict with any other member, this does not mean that it is a NISA affair, maritime business is highly characterized by conflicts, even among members of an association. It can only become an association affair if somebody has gone into the account of NISA and defrauded the association; order than this, every of the allegations so far is barbaric.
Mr. Rasak Lawal (Ship Owner)
NISA is an organization that is well recognized both locally and internationally, the issue that came up about calling for the resignation of the president is not a matter that should be blown out of proportion, I think there are some personal issues involved in it, there is a way such issues are handled within the association, the excos know what to do and they have not done it, you cannot ask the President to resign without consulting the general members. At the end of the whole issue, I can assure you that we will look at our constitution and we might probably call for the resignation of these executives, as far as we are concerned there is no division in the association, so if some people calling themselves an executive now take such decision, then it will not be permitted.
Engineer Mathew Alalade (President Merchant Navy)
For peace to reign, I believe that if EFFC is on the jugular of someone, let that person step aside until the matter is resolved and let the acting president take charge of the association' s affair,
because as it is the crisis rocking NISA at the moment has gained international awareness and the Nigeria maritime sector players in particular, are watching, thus the need to find a lasting solution to the problem is of essence. As it is, the Federal Government will find it difficult to partner with NISA, and I believe no government agency will open its eyes at this moment to disburse fund to an organisation that is faced with instability. So I will advice Labinjo to resign.
Barrister Emeka Akagbogu (Maritime Lawyer)
For the best interest of the members of association and for the achievement it has recorded, I think there is the need for them to be seen as united and fully focused. They should single mindedly focus on confronting the issues on ground which is affecting the association on a daily basis and if they have that mind, then everything will be done to ensure that the body called NISA is together in addressing common challenges. NISA is very key to the industry and watchword should be for them to be focus.

As it is now, Labinjo is perceived as a distraction because executives of the association have urged him to step aside and it will be a good thing for him to do just that for the association to forge ahead. I believe that the executives of NISA is right to tell Labinjo to give way until the EFCC matter is settled. If this matter lingers it might lead to the down fall of NISA. I will appeal to the president to act bravely and step aside.
Comrade Julius Eforkpo (scribe Merchant Navy)
Since the president has been alleged with questionable character at the moment, there is need for him to step down for other executives of NISA to move the association forward. If I were him (Labinjo) I will just step aside and ensure that the issue with the EFCC is resolved first before thinking of how to come back as president, but at the moment it is not advisable to parade himself as NISA president because of the issue on ground.
