Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, said on Wednesday that six Ukrainian sailors returned home from Greece after spending more than a year and a half in detention.
“Good morning news: six Ukrainian sailors of RS 300-97 vessel, who were forbidden to leave Greece for more than a year and a half, came back last night.
“We are working so that others also return to their family and friends,’’ Klimkin said on Twitter.
In November 2016, Russian ship “Vice Admiral Kulakov’’ rescued in the Mediterranean the crew of Ukraine’s wrecking fishing vessel RS 300-97.
The Russian ship towed the fishing vessel to the closest port of the Greek island of Crete.
The Greek authorities detained the Ukrainian crew after finding a stack of cigarettes of unknown origin aboard the fishing vessel.
