A 57-year-old businessman, Ifeanyi Ugbana, who allegedly forged documents of the Nigeria Customs Service, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ugbana is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, cheating and forgery.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 18, 2017, at Maryland, Ikeja.
Uwadione said that the accused, with an intent to steal, underpaid custom duties for clearing of a Mercedes Benz G55 Wagon.
“The accused lied to the Nigeria Custom Service that it was a Honda Pilot he was clearing.
“He presented a forged Nigeria Customs Service Valuation Assessment form to sell off the G wagon to Mr Jonathan Robinson, the complainant,” Uwadione said.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 323, 366 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adedayo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until Sept. 3.
