Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside has called for partnership among government agencies operating in Apapa to ensure that the bad access roads are repaired on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) basis.
Peterside made the call while speaking at the 2018 conference of Women's International Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria held in Lagos last week.
The NIMASA boss who was represented at the meeting by a Director, Hajia Lami Tumaka said that it was obvious that the federal government was not ready to pay attention to the dilapidated port roads, hence he called on agencies like the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Nigeria Customs Service, Shippers Council and others to come together and donate resources to help the federal government carry the responsibility.
He lamented the rigors of accessing the office and leaving Apapa, saying that several man hours is being lost to the gridlock.
"We have NPA, we have Customs and NIMASA, all within that vicinity, if the federal government does not do it, we can come together as a block and assist in what is called the nightmare of Apapa today. We spend hours, I spent four hours before getting through"
