Master Mariners To Launch Data Base November

Poised to get rid of fake, the Nigerian Association of Master Mariners has disclosed that it will soon launch a data base.

President of the association; Captain Tajudeen Alao, told Shipping Position Daily, that the data base will capture and certify all master mariners in Nigeria, even as he added that the data base will be unfolded  November  10, 2018 at the association’s  office in Apapa, Lagos state.

“We are launching a data base for all master mariners in Nigeria, this will be coming up on the 10th of this month, it is because of the strike that we have not passed the information”, he said.

"We have been doing a lot of things, as I am speaking with you now, the immediate past president of the association is in MAN, Oron now for the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the cadets. We have been meeting people in our office who come around for advices and discussions.

Speaking further on the proposed data base, Capt  Alao also said that bonafide members of the association will be issued a certificate and an identity card, even as he added that it is only members who are financially up to date that will be given these things.

"We are going to give membership certificate and ID cards to bonafide members and anybody who does not have identity card is not out member. You must also be financially up-to-date before we can issue you a certificate or an identity card.

According to him, the decision was taken in a bid to rid the association of fake members.

He added that in other maritime counties, it’s only certified members that are allowed into the association.

"This move was inspired because there are so many fake people out there claiming to be master mariners and they are giving us bad name. Our association is like the Honorable club of master mariners in London, in South Africa, Canada and Australia amongst others. You can not even enter unless you are a certified master mariner"
