Poised to further educate freight forwarders on counterfeit and fake products coming into the country, the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has concluded plans to partner with leading freight forwarders associations to educate Nigerians on the menace of fake drugs.
In a statement signed by the Founder of the National Association of Government Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam on Tuesday, the meeting between the agency and the associations has been billed to hold on Thursday in River state.
He also disclosed that the meeting is aimed at checking the importation of fake and substandard drugs into the country.
Aniebonam also said that the meeting among other things, will provide means of saving lives of Nigerians from substandard drugs.
"There is no gainsaying the fact the management team of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria is doing everything possible to save lives of Nigerians through quality assurances, control and regulation of all products imported and or manufactured in Nigeria in line with the Act 15 of 2015 as amended. To achieve this noble and statutory duty, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria is undertaking a collaborative partnership with leading freight forwarding associations in Nigeria to educate and enlighten all freight forwarding practitioners and other critical stakeholders on matters of its standard operating procedures to checkmate importation and/or manufacture of fake, adulterated, substandard and counterfeit products in Nigeria. The stakeholders meeting shall also provide great opportunity for exchange of ideas, views, suggestions and solution on how best the lives of the greater number of Nigerians shall be saved through standardization and quality assurances of all products in Nigeria. The essence of ease of doing business in the Nigerian ports in line with the federal government policy cannot be overemphasized", he said.
He called on freight forwarders to attend the meeting as critical matters concerning the sector will be discussed.
"May we therefore direct that all freight forwarding practitioners should endeavour to attend the collaborative relationship between SON and critical stakeholders in the maritime subsector of the economy", he concluded.
