The Nigerian Navy said it has arrested nine suspected sea pirates including three Greece citizens, one American.
The suspects were nabbed after being caught on the Nigerian sea with heavy ammunition. Navy said the nabbed suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authority after thorough investigation.
The suspects met their waterloo after their vessel was stopped by the operatives of the Operation Junction Rain.
Four military assault rifles (Bernelli MR-1) loaded with magazines, about 1,000 live ammunition in a box and other hidden exhibits including various communication gadgets were recovered from the pirates.
Announcing the arrest, Commodore Dickson Olisemenogor, who is the operation's officer in tactical command, said the suspects have been placed under thorough investigation and more information would be gathered.
Olisemenogor also assured that at the completion of the investigation, those found culpable would be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for prosecution. He further disclosed that apart from the nabbed pirates, another set of 10-man crew suspected to be oil thieves was stopped and arrested.
