The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the Marine Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Muhammad Uba Kura has called for the revitalization of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC).
According to him the CTN has the potentials of curbing activities of criminal elements around the ports.
Kura said this when management of NSC led by the Director, Consumer Affairs Department, Chief Cajetan Agu, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Lagos to congratulate him on his appointment and also enlighten him about the Council’s activities as Port Economic Regulator.
The Police chief assured NSC of the full support of the Nigerian Police Force, even as he assured that the Nigerian Police is positioned to fight and reduce, to the barest minimum, activities of criminals who may want to operate anywhere within the coverage area of the Marine Command.
The AIG opined that if revived, the Cargo Tracking Note, an initiative of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, has the potential to curb the activities of criminals.
Meanwhile in his remarks, Chief Agu highlighted the Council’s roles in ensuring Ease of Doing Business in the maritime industry, some of which include freight forwarders rate negotiation, recovering monies from imposed charges and enforcement, amongst others.
Agu, urged Uba to visit the Executive Secretary of Shippers’ Council to further cement the relationship between the Council and the Maritime Police while Uba guaranteed the cooperation of the Police Force whenever needed by NSC.
