The Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has called on the federal government to review the activities of the APM Terminal as a terminal operator in Apapa port.
The association made this call in Lagos recently, even as it complained of nonchalance and lack of equipment by APMT to run a shipping company
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily, the General Secretary of AMATO, Mr. Chiaka Owoh advised the government to use the opportunity of the coming review of the port concession agreement to look into what is happening at the terminal.
He alleged that the terminal lack the capacity to handle cargoes. “Let me tell you, if they want to review the NPA concession, they should review what is happening in APMT. What is happening there is something else”, he lamented.
“Every day, it is their system breaks down or something will happen, our drivers suffer a lot there. You don’t go there now and hope to come out in the next three hours with your container. They will take you to a place where they will tell you that your containers are and you will find out that your containers are not there. Even when the container is there, they don’t have the equipment to load the container for you”, he added.
He said what obtains at APMT does not obtain at other terminals. “Unlike Tin Can when immediately you get there, your driver will call you that they have loaded. The only problem with Tin Can is how to get there, they have bad access load.
APMT have taken Nigerians as if we are slaves, what they are doing here, the government has not taken out time to see what they are doing here. They should review them let’s see the way forward”, he concluded.
