A new group known s Advocacy for Maritime Development Association (AMDAN) formed by some members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has elected new officials who will steer the affairs for the group for the next few years.
The association stated that the group is not here to compete or create rivalry with ANLCA on any way.
Speaking at the election of key officers of the association in Apapa last week, member of the group’s Board of Trustees, Mr Eniola Igbaroola, who is also Chief of Staff to ANLCA President, stated that the group has existed for five years, until it metamorphosed last year into an association, adding that the association has been registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Igbaroola further explained that the association which is an assemblage of Customs Brokers, started as a social club, with the idea to promote social wellbeing of individuals and to promote professional ethics.
According to him, "Since we are in the maritime sector, our main interest is to see how we can enhance the maritime sector and contribute our quota"
"The association has been in existence for five years, but we were registered with the CAC last year in order to promote our wellbeing and deepen the maritime sector"
"The club does not mean that ANLCA is disintegrated or that members’ interests are not being protected. In the NBA, we have female lawyers association, we have maritime lawyers and so on, does it mean their interests are not being protected in NBA? yet they did not leave the association"
"ANLCA is a very big family, we have ANLCA in Port Harcourt and everywhere, but this advocacy group is not everywhere, we have been working together and we want something that would bind us together, we all belong to ANLCA and we are not rivaling ANLCA" he said.
Key officers elected into the position include: Mr Segun Alabi who emerged as President, Secretary of the association Mr. Fatimehin Oluwatope, Financial Secretary is Alhaji Popoola Hakeem, Social Secretary is Babatunde Adekoya, Treasurer is Alhaji Wasiu Azeez, the Public Relations Officer is Emmanuel Onyeme.
While addressing journalists in his victory speech, Segun Alabi who is equally the Secretary of the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO) of ANLCA said the association would be setting up its Secretariat soon.
