The Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has said that it is placing five members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) on a ‘dishonors list’ for the next five years for daring to constitute a parallel Association Electoral Commission (ASECO) and for conducting Western Zone election in Lagos last week.
At a press briefing held at the ANLCA National Headquarters last week, Vice President of the association, Kayode Farinto disclosed that even though the National President; Mr Tony Nwabunike never wanted its Western Zone chairmen to be suspended, but that the decision was insisted upon by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its meeting in Abuja last Monday.
Farinto described the recent western zone election conducted by the Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha-led factional BOT in Lagos last week Wednesday as a charade. He also said that the implication of the association placing the BOT members on dishonors list means that they would no longer be respected or honored at ANLCA public functions.
He said that although the ANLCA constitution is silent on the number of years to place anyone on dishonor list, but that he used his prerogative as the vice president of the association to make it five years.
"What you witnessed yesterday was not an election but a charade, it is an ASECO that is ratified by NEC that can conduct the election, I am glad that some of you were at the meeting where we ratified the ASECO and even gave them a vote of confidence"
"I need to mention the inglorious role played by some of the BOT members, it is inglorious because everybody that is an officer of the association swore to uphold the constitution and swore to the oath of allegiance, anybody working contrary to this would face the consequences"
"In view of this, we are opening a dishonor register where these five members of the BOT name would be included. They are; Sir Ernest Elochukwu, Mustapha Taiwo, Dennis Okafor, Taiye Oyeniyi and Dayo Azeez"
"We are doing this because, Mr. Mustapha was swearing in a parallel ASECO Chairman, we want to know where he derived his powers from"
"The last administration went ahead to run the day to day administration of the association with the BOT, it is an aberration because the BOT is only supposed to be heard and not seen, BOT can only be seen when we don’t have a NECOM, but we have a NECOM in place" he said.
Farinto also alleged that the Secretary of the BOT, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi was given money two times to go and regularize the names of the BOT members at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) but he never did.
"In view of this, the NEC has directed that he should face a disciplinary committee. He said that according to section 7, subsection 2b, he would be the one to chair the disciplinary committee. The funniest thing is that out of the five people parading themselves as the BOT; it is only Taiye Oyeniyi that is registered.
