The factional Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) led by the Taiwo Mustapha has vowed to take over activities of association following an interim order of the court that sacked the national executive committee of the association.
Recall that there has been a lingering battle for the chairmanship of the ANLCA board between Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha and Chief Henry Njoku, which has led to an unending crisis in the association.
Shipping Position Daily recalls also that recently a Federal High Court in Ikoyi recongnised Taiwo Mustapha and others listed on the certificate of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as the authentic members of the board of trustees of the association.
Reacting to the judgment in a telephone chat with our correspondent, Chief Ernest Elochukwu who is a member of the board informed that the board will take over the activities of the association as instructed by the court at the appropriate time, stating that there is no reason the board will not take over the activities after the proclamation by the court.
“There should not be reason the board should not take over the activities, we will take over at the appropriate time there is a procedure, we are following the procedure and when the time comes, we will take over” he said.
But, reacting to the interim order being paraded by the Taiwo Mustapha-led faction; Chief Henry Njoku the former factional chairman who recently relinquished his position, described the Mustapha led faction as day dreamers, stating that the court did not recognise the board.
In his words “They are day-dreaming, there is nothing like that, the court already declared that they are not recongnised as board, so they should stop parading themselves”
“People like Taiye Oyeniyi should be ashamed of himself, at his age he is still talking association. I have relinquished the tenure and I am not interested in what they are doing”.
Njoku, however explained that, rather than playing politics of who should be chairman or who should not, he would rather leave the position and give his best to resolving other issues in the association.
Njoku informed that he was the one who helped resolve the crisis between the President of the association and the vice president.
“I played my role, the crisis between the president and the vice; I came to address the problem, but you know for Taiye (Oyeniyi) and co, they benefit from crisis if they are building people they won’t be going about and trying to bring crisis to the association”, he said.
In a recent chat with the Vice President of the Association; Mr Kayode Farinto he had informed that the only way to resolve the crisis in the association is for the elders to come together and see how they can resolve it.
Farinto explained that the crisis that came up due to the election can be resolve if the two parties decided to come together, he described what is going on in the association as a “Pull Him Down Syndrome”, that is peculiar to Nigeria politics, while blaming the constitution that gave the board so much powers.
“Some people are capitalizing on the crisis in ANLCA to pull us back, there is crisis because of the election, because one of the camp lost the election, the other camp came together and said let us remove the chairman who belongs to camp ‘B’.
“We have so many issues in the ANLCA constitution that gives executive functions to the board, initially we had a section of the constitution that says the president should be reporting to the board and those are the issues that made the board believe that they are powerful, the only solution is for the elders to come together and see how they can resolve the crisis”, he said.
