The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has reinstated Chief Henry Njoku as the Chairman of the association’s Board of Trustees (BOT).
Shipping Position Daily had reported exclusively last week that the crisis rocking the BOT took a new twist when the National President, Tony Iju Nwabunike called for a truce meeting between the National Executive Committee and the BOT.
Our correspondent gathered at the end of the meeting from reliable sources, that Chief Njoku has been reinstated after several appeals. He was however asked to sign an undertaken to assure that he would resign honourably in a matter of weeks.
Recall that the BOT recently held an election which brought in Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha as the new board chairman. But, at a meeting which held last week at a Hotel in Festac town, Lagos, ANLCA president, Nwabunike, Taiwo Mustapha and other members of the board reached an agreement to allow Njoku resign honourably.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily at the weekend, Secretary of the BOT, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi said that Njoku has served in the board for more than 10 years and that it is only proper for him to take his leave, honourably.
He however told our correspondent that agreements reached at the meeting would be documented and a communiqué would be issued.
"We have drawn up a programme for his (Njoku) leaving, but we want to make it white and black, there is no way we can allow somebody who has been there for 10 years to remain, it is not possible”, he vowed.
Our correspondent learnt that Njoku requested for between two to three months of grace to still be recognized as the BOT Chairman to enable him ‘put certain things in order’, the expiration of which he would then hand over to Mustapha who was validly elected as the Chairman.
Following the granting of his request, the Board then made it mandatory for him that he would have to sign an undertaking to hold him to his words to leave at the stipulated time, an agreement to which he reportedly agreed to.
The elected BOT chairman, Alhaji Mustapha was reported to have accepted the verdict of the Board to foster peace in the association.
