A former National Secretary and current member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of Association of Nigerian Licensed Custom Agents (ANLCA); Mr Tony Iju Nwabunike, incumbent Vice President of the association; Mr Kingsley Emenike Nwokeoji and National Secretary of the association; Dr Emmanuel Oparah Ogu may have finally been shortlisted as contenders for the position of National President of the association in the coming elections.
Shipping Position Daily had hinted about two weeks ago that the battle would be a straight one between Nwabunike and Nwokeoji, but a statement which emanated yesterday confirmed that the trio would slug it out.
The leading contestants were unveiled in brief minutes of the last meeting of the association’s national executive committee (NECOM) which held in Lagos recently.
In what appear like the first official statement from the association’s headquarters on the coming elections; a source unveiled the names of the front runners in an e-mail.
According to the source, ‘’front runners for the office of the National President, which was zoned to the Igbo extraction of ANLCA membership are: Chief Anthony Iju Nwabunike – Otunba Fiwasaye and Member, Board of Trustees of ANLCA, National Vice President of ANLCA’’. He added that, ‘’they have since commenced their campaigns, to actualize their aspirations’’.
According to the statement, ‘’for the office of the National Vice President, two Princes are contending for the position. They are the National Publicity Secretary – Prince Dr. Kayode Collins Farinto and Prince Dr. Kayode Adetayo Oyinlola’’.
The statement also added that there is a lone contender for the office of national secretary of the association. ‘’For the office of the National Secretary, just one name has cropped up in the weeks and months preceding the lifting of the ban and now’’. The mane was given as the Chairman of ANLCA Biometrics Project; Alhaji Mukaila Babatunde Abdulazeez.
The mail also hinted of a serious in-fighting over the format of the election. It disclosed that an exclusive NECOM and BOT members meeting, with an addition of three other members was held last week at the Santiago Milan Hotel, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos without any written agenda, but ostensibly to find a political solution to the mode of elections to be adopted by ASECO.
The source hinted that the meeting could also not agree on the mode, so the decision was said to have been referred to the National Executive Council of ANLCA.
