Despite the cyber-attack on AP Moller-Maersk system which had caused outages on its computer systems across the world last week, the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has expressed hopes that this may not affect its revenue target.
Speaking exclusively with Shipping Position Daily in Apapa yesterday, Customs Area Controller of Apapa Customs, Musa Jibrin stated that the impact of the attack was not felt much by the customs.
Even though activities have since resumed at the port, the hacking on APM Terminals had grounded activities at the Apapa port where long queues of trucks could not access or leave the terminal.
Comptroller Jibrin however said that all these happened during the recent Sallah break and that the impact was not felt much.
At a recent press briefing, the Controller had disclosed that the command was embarking on joint examination of cargoes by all agencies of government recommended to operate inside the port.
He however said that notwithstanding the breakdown at APMT, the process is going on well.
"The joint examination is working, but now APMT seems to be having some challenges, I don't know if you are aware, they said that international hackers have hacked into their systems so we are experiencing some difficulties in clearing the system"
"But we had to define other means of addressing the matter, fortunately it happened when there was Sallah break, this was why the negative impact was not felt much by the customs"
