The Association of Registered Freight Forwarders, Nigeria (AREFFN) has said that it withdrew the letter written by members of the association’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in which it removed the interim National President of the association; Alhaji Bala Lawan Daura and the National Secretary; Mr. Chidi Anthony Opara because of pressure from the members of the association.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily, the former President of the association, Mr. Frank Ukor, said that the letter was withdrawn owing to pressure from members of the association.
He said that the move was also for the good of the association, adding that the withdrawal of the letter is for a grace period of six months.
“The issue is that some time ago, we issued a letter of termination of appointment to the president because of incompetence. But there have been a lot of pressure from our members that we cannot continue like that. So after listening to them, we had a meeting on Thursday and at the end of the meeting, we reached an agreement that we should withdraw the letter in spirit. So we withdrew the letter in spirit, we gave him time to let him continue until we have election”, the ex-President disclosed.
“If he (the sacked President) performs, during the time of election we will consider whether he should be elected, but if he didn’t continue we will do the needful. But for us to move forward there is need to mend all rules and to allow the breeze of life. The letter we withdrew will last for six months and within the next six months we will have election and this will determine whether he performed well or not. If he performs well or not he can re-contest and if he didn’t win then he didn’t perform well, but if he wins he will continue with the position. It is this particular issue that has been putting us on the news negatively. But now that we have resolved it, we will go ahead”, he said.
