The Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron; Commander Duja Effedua (rtd), has confirmed the arrival of the Academy’s long awaited simulator from India.
Effedua, in a chat with our correspondent said the simulator recently arrived Lagos and will be moved down to the Akwa Ibom state-based school, while stating that the simulator will arrive Uyo by next week.
The Rector also disclosed that the school, which gad shut down because of the COVID-19 Pandemic is likely to open soon, stating that the school has taken all the necessary steps towards resumption but waiting for government’s instructions before reopening.
While stating that 30 instructors from the school will be trained for one month on how to man the simulator, he said 15 out of the 30 instructors have already arrived in India while the remaining 15 will go after the COVID 19 lock down.
He said: “We ready for reopening, but waiting for instructions from the Federal Government before doing so, the school has taken every necessary steps towards reopening, but we are waiting for instructions, no university has resumed yet, we don't want to be the first to resume but we are ready.
On the much-expected simulator, the Rector said, “yes, one of our simulator has arrived in Lagos now and that is the most important one and the other one is coming to Uyo by next week.
“We have trained our own instructors; we took 30 of them to India, 15 have gone, the other 15 are going after the COVID lockdown, so we are good to go, so they can repair they can install”
“It is pertinent to state that the Academy is the only institution in Africa that has the Multifunctional Classroom.
“In order to avoid the mistakes of the past, the Academy has trained 15 of its ICT staff as both users and maintainers at the manufacturer’s facilities in India. The ICT team was fully involved in the training as they can now assemble, dismantle as well as carry out repairs on the simulators. The Academy will therefore not need to fall back to the manufacturers for maintenance”, he assured.
