The Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transport of Nigeria (ATBOWATON) has called on the government to build dome on the waters to make assess to fuel while on navigation easier for them.
The association made this appeal on Monday in an interview with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos.
Speaking on the need for a dome, President of the association, Mr. Ganiyu Balogun, maintained that unavailability of fuel on the waterways has always been a very big challenge to members of the association, even as he pleaded with the government to assist by either constructing the dome on the waters or build fuel stations on the jetties for easy access to the product by operators.
“We are also facing a lot of problems in the cause of doing our businesses, they asked us about the problems we are facing and how they can come in and we told them the issue of fuel on the waters, how they can build a fuel station for us on the waters. And they promised us that they are going to construct a dome all over the waters just like a floating station or station on the waterways to make it easier for us”
He also said that the issue of scarcity bites them harder as boat operators than motorists saying that most times when they go to buy in gallons it has not always been easy for them
“You know many people have to carry gallons whenever there is scarcity of fuel to go and buy fuel. You know whenever there is fuel scarcity the problem gets worst but now the government has agreed to build dome for us. So that is one of the things we have agreed on” he concluded.
