Stakeholders in the nation's maritime industry have expressed shock, over the demise of Capt Adamu Biu on Monday at the age of 70 years. He was born on October 14, 1950.
Industry stakeholders have described the one-time executive secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has an icon that will be greatly missed.
In a chat with our correspondent, the president of National Association of Masters Mariners; Capt Tajudeen Alao said he got the call of his demise in the early hours of yesterday after Capt Biu’s son called him to inform him about his demise, describing his death as a huge shock to the industry.
"It was his son; Idrissu who called me and informed me that Capt. Biu has passed on, the boy informed me that he has been in and out of coma for the last three weeks, so it came as a shock, but Adamu has gone and we shall miss him
"Adamu was well respected in the ministry of transportation, well-respected at Nigerian Shippers Council and even in our association, he will be greatly missed" he said.
On his part, a member of the steering committee of Nigeria indigenous Ship Owners Association (NISA) Mr. Taiwo Akinpelumi also described the late Capt Adamu Biu as an icon who had diligently paid his dues as a true and patriotic leader and will be greatly missed by all.
He described the late Capt Biu as a man of honour right from the time he started working with Nigeria National Shipping Line (NNSL), till he left the NSC ,he prayed God grant his family and the maritime industry the fortitude to bear the loss.
The late Captain Adamu Biu attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and the LBS Nautical and Engineering College.
The late Capt Biu retired from the NSC in 2012 having served as the CEO since 2004.
