The Council of Maritime Truck Unions and Associations (COMTUA) has accused some truck unions of patronising illegal parks for their trucks.
The Head of Operations, COMTUA, Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa who made this accusation in an interview with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, also denied the allegation of extortion levied against the new task force team by some truckers.
He said that despite the fact that his associated control over 70% of the trucks in the maritime industry he has not heard about extortion before.
"I know the strength of my organization if you come to trucking sector my association control about 70% of the trucks that are operating in the maritime sector"
"And I have never heard any allegation of extortion by the new task force team from any of my member"
Explaining further he said the people accusing the new task force team of extorting are the people who is angry because of the destruction of some illegal parks.
"I know some people have their grievances over some operations that have taken place by the new task team in the area of the clean up of some illegal parks under the bridges and all that"
Inuwa however said that some members of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners(AMARTO) also patronise the parks.
He lauded the Opeifa led task force team for trying to bring sanity back to the axis.
"Which even some of our members who patronise such parks were also affected. Because of the dislodging and cleaning of illegal parks some people have started indicting the new task force team. To me the Opeifa lead task force team is a Saint sent to clean up Apapa axis"
"Some of the parks that have been said to be illegal parks include Lilypond under the bridge which I know part of AMARTO members are parked there"
"There is also another illegal park along Ijora axis. These are the ones I know even some of our members do go to park there as they regard them as illegal parks" he concluded.
