Fresh indications have emerged that the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has finally deployed its enforcement, Monitoring and Compliance team to seaports, airport and border stations in compliance with the Act of the Council.
Registrar of CRFFN, Barr Samuel Nwakohu disclosed this last week when he hosted the African Centre for Supply Chain (ACSC) which paid a courtesy call on his office in Lagos. He disclosed that although the number of officers deployed is not much, the Council is set to deploy more officers to beef-up its presence and its men already deployed.
Shipping Position Daily had earlier reported exclusively that the CRFFN had appointed Mr. Thimothy Awogbemi as the Chairman of the Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement Committee.
The council had also disclosed that Inspector General of Police, Idris Abubakar deployed 21 Police officers to the Council to work with its Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement unit to enable it commence Enforcement of its Regulatory roles
When he was asked on the performance and the not-too-visible presence of the CRFFN team at entry points, Barr Nwakohu stated that the teams are always present at the seaports, airport and land borders, he also stressed the need for a review of the CRFFN Act in order to expunge the term "Enforcement" from the description of the job of the committee.
He said, "when I came in and saw the word 'enforcement', I didn't like it, but it is in the Act, and there is not much I can do until I sit down and review the Act, I would rather call it 'Compliance'"
"It is not true that they are not there at the port, if you go to the borders and airports you would see them, I see them there, there might not be so many of them"
"Yesterday, I was reviewing the list for posting which they have submitted to me, we have resolved that any moment from now, people would be sent to their different posts where they would do their compliance and enforcement", he said.
