The Tin Can Island Chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has once again incured the wrath of the National Headquarters of the association as the chapter secretary, Deacon Dike Kalu has been suspended indefinitely, while Chairman of the chapter, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor was issued a final warning and a letter of caution.
The suspended Secretary was alleged to be engaging in anti-association activities, while the Chairman was allegedly urging him on and encouraging him in the act.
Public Relations Officer of NAGAFF, Mr. Stanley Ezenga confirmed to Shipping Position Daily that a panel was set up at the headquarters to look into the activities of the chapter and allegations against the chairman that he was aware of the nefarious act of the secretary and he was shielding him against other executives.
Ezenga said at the end of the panel siting, the secretary was removed while the chairman was issued a caution letter last week.
“It is true the secretary was suspended for some anti-association activities, NAGAFF which is an upright association would not like somebody who would act in a manner that would throw the association in a bad light in public”
“His action was un-becoming of somebody holding a position as Secretary. A panel was set up to investigate allegations against Kalu and after the investigation he was found guilty, so they recommended in their report to the board, the board looked at it and took appropriate action”
“Even the Chairman was also cautioned because he was hob-nobbing with the secretary to the detriment of other executives, so he was equally cautioned on the same day the secretary was suspended, the Chairman also received a letter of caution”, he told our correspondent.
Ezenga however said the embattled secretary has appeared at the association’s headquarters to plead his case, but he stressed that the headquarters is not unaware that the Chairman has a soft spot for him.
When our correspondent contacted the Chairman, Ekweozor, he debunked the report by the PRO , he insisted that he was never issued a caution letter. He said the relationship between himself and the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Aniebonam and President of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke remained cordial.
When our correspondent asked him about allegations that he was still allowing Mr. Dike to lay claim to his chapter’s secretary seat, Ekweozor said, “If someone is suspended, it does not make him to stop being a member of the association”
“Tell them to show you the ‘caution letter’ because there is nothing like that, the Founder and the President are not aware of this so where is it coming from”, he stated.
When our correspondent contacted the embattled Secretary of the chapter, Mr. Kalu, he said he was never suspended by the headquarters and that he still remains Secretary of the chapter.
“It is not true, I am talking to you right now from NAGAFF secretariat at Tin Can chapter, the news is coming from detractors that failed election in the chapter and felt they have to do things with impunity and get away with it” he said
