The Sokoto State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) last week announced that it collected about N198.5 million as internally generated revenue in July.
Alhahi Sani Madugu, Area Controller in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states told the News Agency of Nigeria( NAN ) in Sokoto that about N86,273,274.00 was collected in the same period in 2015.
He said about 130 per cent increase was recorded compared to what was generated last year.
He explained that the command had taken measures to improve revenue generation by ensuring that all goods coming into its area of jurisdiction had duties .
He explained that well equipped personnel had also been deployed to all identified routes of smugglers to ensure their arrest and prosecution.
Madugu solicited the support of traditional rulers in border communities to assist with intelligence reports that could aid the personnel to prevent all forms of smuggling.
