Five men were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa magistrates court for assault and robbery.
They are: Suleimon Dauda, Noah Rufai, Emeka Isaac, Amaechi Uche and Korede Aremu. They are facing two count charges on conspiracy and assault.
According to the Prosecutor, Seargent Onawu Iyobosa, the defendants committed the offences along the Badagry expressway in Apapa magisterial district.
He told the court that the accused “and others now at large on the 2nd day of March 2019 at about 0100hours at Church bus stop, Lagos Badagry expressway in Apapa magistrates district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony with stealing".
According to the Iyobosa, “ they used cutlass to threaten the lives of motorist in the traffic congestion with the intention of carrying out criminal act of robbery".
She also said that the offences are punishable under sections 1411 and 56 of the criminal laws of Lagos state 2015.
The defendants denied committing the offences.
The Magistrate Mrs. OS Abioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties.
She added that the sureties who must gainfully employed must also provide evidence of tax payment to Lagos state government.
Abioye also said that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the court.
The case was adjourned till 28th of March 2019 for mention.
