The Nigeria Customs Service has promoted the Area Controller in charge of Apapa Area Command; Bashir Abubakar has now been promoted into an Acting Assistant Comptroller General of Customs.
Industry stakeholders have however speculated that the promotion was a reward for his rejection of US$420,000 offered to him by a drug trafficking cartel which attempted to take delivery of 41containers of tramadol.
Subsequently, he has been transferred to the Customs headquarters in Abuja as ACG Headquarters.
Confirming this to Shipping Position Daily on Friday, National Public Relations Officer of Customs; Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah said Bashir is now Acting ACG Headquarters.
Also speaking with our correspondent, the Apapa Command Public Relations Officer, Nkiru Nwala said that Compt Bashir would be replaced next week by Compt Aba Kura who hitherto held sway as Controller of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Unit.
She said the handover ceremony between both officers holds next week.
