The Federal Operating Unit (FOU A) of the Nigeria Customs Service, has seized goods with Duty Paid Value of N229,950,089 between June and July, 2017.
The comptroller of the unit, Comptroller, Mohammed Uba, disclosed this yesterday at a press briefing in Lagos.
Speaking at the briefing, he said that within this period, 40 different seizures were made comprising of vegetable oil, foreign parboiled rice, frozen poultry products, smuggled vehicles, medicaments, used tyres and various general goods.
The unit’s boss also disclosed that three of the containers intercepted by the unit contained 5,014 pieces of uses tyres, uses fridges, used double electric burner, while the other containers had 499 cartons of Eva Soap as against poultry incubator that was declared by the importer.
He further said that 15 suspects have been arrested in connection with these seizures even as he maintained that some of the arrested suspects have been released.
Speaking further, Comptroller Uba said that the goods were intercepted at different parts of Lagos.
He also disclosed that the unit recovered N28, 954,448 from duty payment and demand notices on general goods that tried to outsmart the officers and men of the Customs at seaports, airports and border stations through wrong clarification, transfer of value and shortchange in duty payment that are meant for federal government.
