Recently-formed freight forwarding association; the International Freight Forwarders Association (IFFA) has vowed to win majority seats in the governing board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) whenever elections are conducted.
In an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, President of the association and former Vice chairman of the immediate past governing council of the CRFFN, Dr. Sam Onyemelukwe claimed that no other freight association could be placed side by side IFFA in terms of strength, professionalism and connection.
He said that the group is currently placing itself strategically by establishing chapters at every seaport and border post in order to enthrone professionalism in freight forwarding business.
Already, the association has its chapters in Apapa port, Lillypond, Ijora, Idiroko and KLT. He said that PTML chapter would be established on the 6th July 2017.
Onyemelukwe sounded a note of warning to other associations not to view themselves as the alpha and omega of the maritime sector. He boasted that IFFA produced five members on the last governing council of the CRFFN
"The CRFFN is in good relationship with IFFA, in the last governing council of the CRFFN we produced five members of the governing board including the chairman of Committee on registration"
"The moment you see the next governing council in place, you will equally see IFFA at the forefront. You cannot say IFFA is not registered with CRFFN and CRFFN cannot equally come out to proclaim so, this is because we know where we are coming from and what happened"
"What other association can you place side by side with IFFA? Possibly you can look at ANLCA. With the way we are going, you cannot bring any other association to stand with us"
"The era of touting is gone and one department of freight forwarding should not be seeing themselves as an island" he said.
Onyemelukwe said that IFFA is an international body that is institutionalizing global best practice into freight forwarding profession.
