In what is yet unprecedented in the annals of freight forwarding in Nigeria, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has directed that its members must wear uniform.
The association, in a statement, a copy of which was sent to Shipping Position Daily and personally signed by its founder; Dr Boniface Aniebonam said wearing of prescribed uniform for its members is a criteria for franchise in its coming chapter elections.
Under the new dispensation, the dress code approved for all members is Black Suit or Safari Suit for men; women are expected to put on Black Skirt Suit.
For field Operations, the men are to wear Black Trouser, Black Shoe, 2 Patch Pocket, Light Brown- Coloured Short Sleeve Shirt.
Perhaps justifying the dress code, in the statement, the NAGAFF founder stressed that: "Let it be on record that freight forwarding practice is a noble profession in line with the Act establishing the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN). CRFFN as an Agency of the Government has the mandate as a law to regulate and control the practice of freight forwarding profession in Nigeria"
"It is a fact that NAGAFF and its members are duly registered with CRFFN with certificate number 002 of 28th January 2012. A freight forwarder in the Nigeria Customs ports and approved entry points should be properly identified and accorded due respect, honour and integrity"
The dress code which takes effect from 26th of February 2018 is also a pre-condition to effectively participate in the election. To underscore this, the statement insisted that any member of the association who fails to comply or who is not adorned in dress combination as prescribed will not be allowed to vote or be voted for during the coming election, which is also slated for March, 2018.
