The Chairman of Sandamu Local Council in Katsina State, Alhaji Sani Jarkuka, has expressed happiness over the recent allocation of 6,000 hectares of land for the construction of Federal University of Transport in the area.
The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the establishment of the university in the area in 2018.
The chairman said on Tuesday in Sandamu at a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the area that the projects would also create employment opportunities and enhance social and economic development.
He told the stakeholders that the state government has also paid compensation to owners of farmlands acquired for the construction of a mini stadium in Sandamu.
Jarkuka listed other projects undertaken in the area by the state government to include the drilling of 155 boreholes to boost water supply and construction of a 165 kilometers of road network, and toilet facilities in 22 schools.
The chairman who lauded the government for the gesture, added that it also provided fertilizer, constructed and renovated schools, as well as provided two boats with combined capacity to convey 200 people at a time.
The council boss added that the administration of Gov. Aminu Masari had constructed township roads at Katsayal, as well as new residences and office accommodations for the District Heads of Rijiyar Tsamiya and Fago.
Masari was in Sandamu on Monday on a campaign tour ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
