One week after the fracas between hoodlums and officers of the Lagos State Task Force which claimed one life, while several properties of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) destroyed, the park is still under lock and key for trucks.
According to source, the continuous closure of the truck terminal was to enable a proper and detailed investigation into the remote cause of the incident.
The president of the National Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC), Mr. Adeyinka Bakare, who spoke to Shipping Position Daily in Apapa yesterday, said that locking up trucks for so long will definitely have effect on the drivers and truck owners.
"I can tell you that, for days now that truck has not been opened for trucks to come out. So you can imagine that, these guys are human beings they will stay inside the same truck for 10days or more doing nothing".
According to him, "They closed the park because they said they are still investigating the cause if the crisis. Imagine when someone stays there for like five days there are surely going to be reactions from the person"
"But we are engaging them and hopefully things will get better soon"
Explaining further, he added that the park is not properly utilized, saying that it is supposed to be a transit park and not a truck park.
"The place is not a park; it is supposed to be transit park where trucks can go in, check documentation before going into the port to load or offload, that is how it should be"
"But I think if that terminal is properly utilized the way it should, we are not supposed to have this type of traffic we are having now". he said.
When our correspondent visited the park, no truck was seen going in or coming out of the park. But, there were trucks parked inside.
