A 30 year old man; Mohammad Adamu was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates Court for defrauding a buyer under the pretence of selling a truck head.
The defendant is arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on collecting of money on a false pretence and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the count that the defendant committed the offence on the 23rd October 2018 in Apapa.
According to him, "Mohammad Adamu on 23rd day of October 2018 at Apapa in Apapa magisterial district did fraudulently obtain the sum of N1million from one Amadu Usman with the pretence that you were going to sell one Mark Truck Head to him knowing same to be false"
"Mohammed Adamu on the same time, place and date in the aforesaid magisterial district did steal the sum of N1million from one Amadu Usman"
Inspector Ekpo, also said that the offences are punishable under sections, 314(a) and 281 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the first charge and denied commuting the second offence.
The Magistrate, Mr. N.A Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
He also said that the sureties must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment adding that one of the sureties must be an Iman.
The case adjourned till 6th of February 2019 for mention.
