A 42-year old man; Daniel Okafor was on Tuesday arranged before an Apapa magistrates court for assaulting a staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) at Tin Can Island Port, in Apapa Lagos.
According to the Prosecutor, Sergeant Balogun Adeniyi, the defendant also presented himself as a military personnel.
He said that the defendant committed the offences at Tin Can Island Port within the Apapa magisterial district. The Prosecutor gave the identity of the assaulted NPA staff as Ogbebute Anthony
According to him the defendant presented an identity card of the Nigerian Army, with which he claimed to be a military personnel.
Seargent Adeniyi said that the offences are punishable under sections 174 and 77 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.
The defendant, Daniel who was later found to be a petty trader within the vicinity of the port is facing a two -ount charge bordering on assault and impersonation.
The defendant however denied not committing the offences.
The Magistrate, Mrs J. Ugbomoiko granted the defendant a bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She added that the surety who must be a blood relation to the defendant must be employed with evidence of employment.
The case was adjourned till 18th of April 2019
