Apparently shocked at the outcome of the recent national executive committee meeting of the Association of Nigerian Customs Licensed Agents (ANLCA), especially as it affects the working relationship between the two, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has cautioned members of the former to be decorous in their utterances.
The NAGAFF noted in a statement yesterday that, it was not pleased with a portion of the communiqué. “One of the items of the communiqué which said that though they are not expressly opposed to the ANLCA/NAGAFF Initiative (ANI), but that they were not comfortable with the “unguarded utterances” of NAGAFF is to us laughable and preposterous.”
Shipping Position Daily recalls that ANLCA had in a statement after its National Executive Council (NEC)meeting in Port Harcourt last week, cancelled its working relationship with the NAGAFF. The relationship was called the ANLCA-NAGAFF Initiative (ANI).
The duo fell apart as a result of the collection of Practitioners Operating Fee (POF).The decision to officially end their relationship was one of the highlights of the Port Harcourt meeting.
In the communiqué ANLCA described the ANLCA-NAGAFF Initiative as a purpose-driven platform to protest the persisting operational challenges in the ports and the deplorable access roads into the ports, the association, however, said this has been dismantled.
While reacting through its spokesperson, NAGAFF acknowledge that “the two associations are distinct and separate bodies known to law and the modus operandi of both associations is quite different and mutually exclusive when it comes to what each do administratively and otherwise”.
“We use this opportunity nevertheless, to advise ANLCA members to be circumspect in their utterances with respect and decorum”, the statement added.
“One association does not and should not be seen to dictate to the other on what they should do or say. If and when there is a need to collaborate they should do this with due consideration to the corporate identity of each of the Associations. We can only pray that members of ANLCA should take advantage of the goodwill of their President to build a great association of their dream”, statement concluded.
