A chieftain of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Mr. Nnadi Ugochukwu has lamented that the new National Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) 11, which was recently introduced at the Terminal Multipurpose Logistics (PTML) terminal is causing a lot of problems as agents are yet to get used to the new system.
Mr. Ugochukwu was a former Deputy National President of NAGAFF who is now seeking election to become chairman of the PTML chapter of the association.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily at PTML in Lagos, he said that agents are yet to have a full grip of what the new system is all about. He however expressed hope that, with time freight forwarders will get used to the new system.
“All these things are mere speculations the new system is creating a lot of problems that is NICIS 11 that the customs created is creating problems and nobody is keying in. People do not really understand what that means so we are still battling on getting it done” he said.
Meanwhile the Customs Public Relation Officer (PRO), PTML Command, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, has urged any freight forwarder who has issues with the new Nigerian Integrated Customs Information Service (NICIS) 11 to come up.
He maintained that a lot of training and sensitization was carried out last year in that regard, stressing that there is no reason anybody will say that he doesn’t understand the system.
“If you have a complain come forward with that we will sort it out. We have organised training and sensitization for this program form almost one month. We had the sensitize before the training for like 2weeks and we did the sensitization for like one month before we rolled this things out. There was a sensitization and training so i see no reason why somebody will be complaining about this. And even if you have a problem you come forward with it and the program will be solved”
He also said that awareness for the program has been going on since last year so it is not a new thing in the system.
“We have been on ground for this for the past two months now, we have be training and retraining and carrying out sensitization, but even if you have a complain on that regards come forward with that and it will be solved. Since last year we have been informing people that we are going back to NICIS 11. We have trained people and sensitized them so it is not as if it is a new development” he said.
