The Apapa chapter chairmanship aspirant in the coming elections of the National association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko has called on members to embrace peace in the coming elections.
Alhaji Tanko made the call on Friday during his campaign rally in Apapa, Lagos.
He also urged members to always have the interest of the association at heart, adding that the election will come and go but the association will still remain.
He advised NAGAFF members to emulate what happened in the nation's last general election where the incumbent having lost the election called the winner to congratulate him, there by promoting peace in the country.
Alhaji Ibrahim said that politics of malice will not help the association to grow.
Addressing the gathering, he said: "Let me use this opportunity to say that this NAGAFF is one family, the election will come and go and the association will still remain, whether you win or lose because in an election one person must win’’
I want to use this opportunity to appeal to people that are taking this election as if it is a do or die affair to take it easy. As for me I am not taking it like that, I have already told the people what I will do for them if elected’’.
He challenged aspirants to think more on what to do to better the lives of members instead of involving in election of malice.
"Why can't we learn that fighting people and tearing posters will not help at all. Imagine now you load your container, after you must have paid all the necessary fees you are supposed to pay, on your way out the customs will stop the container and take it to their warehouse. They will start telling you that the value is low and all that".
He also decried the way security agencies disturb clearing agents for the content of the containers instead of disturbing the importers.
"SON and NAFDAC have the details of every importer in this country meaning that they know their address and their warehouses. So if there is any issue they can contact them directly instead of the agents. We have a lot of challenges", he acknowledged.
Speaking about his successor, he said that it is a very big shame that after his tenure, he was not able to get a secretariat for the association.
"The past chairman didn't do well, it is a shame in the premier port like this, we (NAGAFF members) don't have a secretariat. We don't even have where members can pay their complaints, it is part of my agenda in this coming election", he assured.
