All hope for repair of the failed Mile 2 Tin Can port axis of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway may have been dashed following the disclosure yesterday that there is no provision for it in the 2017 Budget.
A top official of the Federal Government and Director-in-Charge of Highway Management at the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing; Mr Chukwuwike Uzo said that the repair of the road was not budgeted for in 2017.
He said categorically that the Mile 2 – Tin Can port axis of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway is not captured in the budget for this year.
He gave the bombshell at the on-going Summit on the “Establishment, management and operations of Transit Truck Parks”, in Abuja.
Uzo said that, hopefully, the repair of the roads would be included in the 2018/2019 budget, adding that the government is currently constructing a Truck park opposite Tin Can port that would accommodate 340 trucks.
He also called for private sector participation in road and facilities construction. “The government cannot do everything; that is why we are calling on investors to see the opportunities in investing in these infrastructures. The main objective is ensuring safety on our roads”, he said.
There are insinuations however that even though not captured in the 2017 budget, failed portion of the Apapa –Oshodi expressway was indeed part of the holistic reconstruction of the entire stretch of the road called Apapa-Oshodi expressway.
