The Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA) has renewed its bid reclaim the Bank of Industry (BoI) building located on Marina in Lagos, a few metres to the corporate head office of the NPA.
The Managing Director of NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman has written to the Minister of Transportation; Mr Rotimi Amaechi requesting that the BoI building be returned to the NPA.
The NPA boss confirmed the development, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the maritime industry corporate dinner and merit awards organised by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA),
According to her, the Bank of Industry building was given to NPA as a replacement NPA’s Ship House in Abuja, which was given to the Ministry of Defence.
She also recalled that the Ship House which was NPA Corporate Head office in Abuja before 1999, was built mainly from NPA’s pension fund, even as she recalled also that, the Bank of Industry was relocated to the current BoI Building after its original head office on Broad Street, Lagos was gutted by fire.
She argued that it would be unfair the NPA and its staff, whose Superannuation Fund was used to put the Ship House in Abuja, for which the Ban of Industry was given in recompence., even as she added that NPA proceeds from the NPA’s superannuation fund were being used to meet its financial obligations to its retirees.
She told journalist that: “We have written to the Ministry for them to get the necessary approval for the property to be reverted back to the Nigerian Ports Authority Superannuation Fund.”
