The Olu of Warri, His Royal Highness, Ogiame Ikenwoli Emiko has urged the management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to create jobs and bring development to Delta state.
He made the plea during a visit by the management of NIMASA to Warri palace.
The monarch said he would not relent in admonishing the people of Warri on peaceful coexistence among them.
He pledged to support NIMASA for coming to the state to resuscitate the Warri and Koko ports.
The traditional ruler said that though the youth were agitating for genuine reason but this should be done in lawful manner.
The monarch urged the people of Niger Delta to lend their support to President Muhammadu Buhari to enable him take Nigeria to the next level.
“For President Buhari to take us to the promise land, he needs our support. He has been doing a lot since he resumed office.
“There is need to revive the Warri and Koko ports which as natural harbour are lying fallow, while vessels are waiting for days to discharge in Lagos ports.
“We need the assistance of your new management concerning whatever you can do to keep our youths busy.
“If our youths are engaged, they will not engage in fighting,’’ NAN quotes Emiko as saying.
He, however, called for peaceful, progress and unity in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria was enough to accommodate everyone.
Speaking earlier, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside, said Warri was one of the important towns in Nigeria.
Peterside said that visits to traditional rulers were meant to pay homage, respect and appreciate their importance in the community.
He said that NIMASA was working very hard in making sure that more activities would take place in Delta State.
Peterside, however, said that the management was sure of the support of his Royal Highness and fatherly blessing to enable the new management to achieve its mandate.
