The crisis rocking the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has assumed a different dimension, following the detention of the association’s Vice President; Mr Kayode Farinto and National Secretary; Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila by the Police.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed that the two ANLCA chieftains were detained on Monday following a petition allegedly written by a member of the association’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Both were being kept at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) on account of the petition which alleged threat to life of some top members of ANLCA.
Confirming the detention to our correspondent on Monday evening, the association’s Vice President; Mr Kayode Farinto alleged that he was invited and later detained along with the Secretary ; Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila.
Farinto alleged that they were detained on the strength of a petition that was written to the Police by the Secretary of the association’s BoT; Prince Taiye Oyeniyi. He claimed that the petitioner accused both of them of threat to the life of the association’s western zone secretary; Mr Bayo Oyekangun, as well as disruption of the association’s peace.
The ANLCA Vice President also added that upon hearing from them and taking their statements, the Police granted them bail. He added that they could not go home on Monday because they were still trying to meet the bail conditions.
Confirming their ordeal, he told our correspondent via the telephone that: “Yes, we are in Alagbon (Force CID) because of a petition that was sent to the Police. They (Police showed the petition to us, we saw it and we saw who wrote it”,
“We were invited and we came. The Police showed us the petition written by Taiye Oyeniyi against us and we gave our own side of the story”
“We have been granted bail, but we cannot go home today (Monday) because of the bail condition”, he told our correspondent on Monday evening.
On the story making the rounds that the association’s bank accounts have been frozen, the Secretary ; Alhaji Babatunde Mukalia denied it and said that he was at one of the banks on Monday and he withdrew money for the association’s use.
Shipping Position Daily also confirmed yesterday that the two ANLCA officials were eventually released yesterday.
A member of the association told our correspondent that the detained official and the petitioner have been asked to report at Alagbon next week Tuesday.
Shipping Position Daily made several efforts to reach Prince Taiye Oyeniyi on Tuesday to no avail. His telephone line did not connect.
